Dunglish on Dutch radio

Radio

I just found out that I will be interviewed on Radio 1 in the programme 1 op de middag tomorrow 24 November sometime between 15:50 and 16:30. Apparently, the book I always get my sin by Maarten H. Rijkens (see further below) has got the Dutch media laughing and interested in Dunglish. In other words, now that someone important and Dutch is pointing out English blunders instead of making them, the topic is hot.

Cool! Give them from cotton! ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. Natashka says:

    Thx!

  3. Hans says:

And from Jetje, not to forget!

  4. Yolanthe says:

In Den Haag adverteert een kapper met deze zin: “Change your view!”

Ik denk dat hier bedoeld wordt: Change the way you look; Verander je uiterlijk.

  5. Natashka says:

    Someone send Balkenende there quick!

  6. Jurjen says:

Now, now, you shouldn’t spot with the prime minister!

I just got here because I heard you on the radio, nice weblog. I’m Dutch but in Canada. Have you seen or heard the Canadian Grolsch commercials, ouch. Or rather, outjsch. Or the ING commercials in a painfully overacted Dutch accent? Dunglish reversed.

  8. Rolf says:

Thanks to that ‘important’ Dutchman I’ve discovered your beautiful weblog. In other words, you should be grateful instead of jealous. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. Jan Peter says:

Nou, thanks dan maar hรƒยจ? Mijn moeder zegt dat ik er weer knap uitzie.

  10. Natashka says:

Je moeder zou dat altijd zeggen ๐Ÿ™‚

    Enne, jealous? Just sarcastic!

It’s much nicer to blog for free with all you guys than have people pay for it. How very unhollands of me ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Natashka says:

Eliane, nice of you to be able to tune into the broadcast!

I heard about the Grolsch commercials, as they resemble the ones in the UK. Heineken did a great job in Quebec in French by writing slogans with double consonants ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Eric says:

Double consonants? As in: Hein-neken? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  13. Natashka says:

Argh, I meant vowels! Something like “on vaa cheez toooi?”

  14. Larry says:

I keep wanting to put stickers on Grolsch ads that read THE ‘CH’ IS SILENT, FOOLS.

As for the ING commercials, the guy is at least Dutch, although he’s exaggerating his accent.

  15. Natashka says:

That Unox sausage advert that tries to present Dutch Canadians living in Western Canada is not very believable to me ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Arno says:

You meen the one with Evert van Benthum? I think it’s nice, although not very believalble indeed. Je hoed Evert!
