A whay with words
“Please keep the toilet clean”, there, I said it. Points for the smartypants who took out the ‘h’, as if that helped any. Dutch writing often makes an affirmation and then adds another sentence to give you a clue, leaving the reader to make the link between the two sentences without ‘coming out and saying it’ like I did here above. Pssst: my version is shorter!

Nice comment except you forgot to mention that a toilet is a thing not a ‘him’. Typical Dutch mistake.

Now that I’ve made coffee: every single object in English is an ‘it’. The only exceptions are historical ones such as ships (long story) and your cat (he or she) because you have a closer relationship with it. And if you were to talk of a ship or a cat as an it you would be right.
