Flemglish cooking with Piet

SOS Piet is coming to fix this woman’s dish!

Not only does he do his best food-wise, he speaks Flemish (Dutch subtitles are provided for those who have problems with his accent), there are bits of Spanish, and he throws in some English and Flemglish as well, making a right funny dish of it himself.

Bon appetit!

Who took my badjas?

This Belgian advert in Flemglish (Flemish + English) has been around for a while, but hey, I didn’t know about it and so it’s time to share.

I think this is a great use of Flemglish (Dunglish) — it can be done!

It even has Dutch subtitles. Yes, Flemish television is often subtitled in Dutch and vice versa whether we like it or not.

Who took my badjas = who took my bathrobe?

Flemglish fashion

Soft drink advert

There I was, sitting in the Brussels-Amsterdam train that now goes through Antwerp Central (new tunnel), enjoying a beverage with a free mini-magazine wrapped around it. I had to peel off the mini-magazine because it made noise every time I reached for a sip. I also have the French translation of this Belgian gem, and it has less English words, although the same style.

Anytime is a classic mistake everybody makes, it should be ‘any time’. The rest is also like this, thrown together in three weeks as the Dutch text claims.

Other beauties include ‘long-lasting potentieel’ (‘long-lasting potential’), ‘soo simpel’ (‘verry simple’) and ‘carrièrreswitch’ (‘career change’).
