Sock label

After a hard day’s work as the Dunglish doctor, this woolly piece of Dunglish just made my happy hour. Besides the absolutely retarded title (I had a good laugh), what’s up with using the singular? I use TWO socks, dude. The only argument would be that each sock is sold separately, but my money is on two. Smell you later!

Guess post – the answer

Advert

We are the new generation – no wait – next generation. Even the Dutch doesn’t mirror the slogan… I’m really confused now. We are next is a different take altogether. I give up.

Bravo to Jessica (see comments on previous posting) for her decoding skills!
This is an advert for the Dutch film academy.

Having to guess is not fun, except here. I suppose text message language is cool when it’s aimed at younger people. It does beg the question: why does it have to be in Dunglish? The Dunglish part is the ‘W’, which has to be pronounced in Dutch rather than in English to make it work.

Advert

Let’s play a game. Don’t Google this wonderful bit of Dunglish/pseudo-hip text message language and guess what it means and/or spells out. Just the fact that it needs to be explained is proof that it’s got problems. I could be wrong, but play along and give an answer without looking it up.

I’ll post the rest tomorrow!

job advert

Once you’ve weeded through the Dutch – and for those who can’t read it you have my permission to ignore it – you could glance over the Dunglish and get the same, uneasy feeling I got. Well, I’ve cropped this beauty and zoomed in on the Dunglish, but chances are the guys over at Taalpuristen and SOS are going to take it apart tomorrow like a bunch of hungry crows. I hope they do and that’s why I’m glad I tipped them off.

One bit I cropped out was a ‘0900′ number at 0.80 euro a minute. Imagine having to call and pay to maybe get a job interview! Maybe I’m in the wrong business.

They ain’t got rhythm

Het Parool
Het Parool
Het Parool

Happy New Year! What a great bunch of coincidences. First, as of tomorrow I’ll be receiving the Amsterdam newspaper Het Parool for two weeks free of charge and second, someone sent me some mistakes the paper made in today’s newspaper that are worth a post. They used the word ‘rhythm’ three times and got it wrong all three times, with two different spellings – all on page 2. Let’s blame the New Year’s festivities.

Yes it’s a tough word to spell, all the more reason to check it, especially since it’s a foreign word. Here’s where that Greek the Dutch study in secondary school comes in handy.
