Dunglish

Yet another post about the seemingly confusing difference between price and prize. Why doesn’t anybody check these things before printing up big red signs to put in all those shops? But OK, even their website says diplomas aren’t everything.

I read this kind of sign when I have to wait for one of Amsterdam’s many busses, trams, metros and ferry boats. This time, I noticed this funny mistake. Showing your age won’t actually prove it. This topic in itself is a can of worms that I will gladly leave unopened. The rest of this sign shows its Dunglish.

It’s been a while since I saw something funny in Amsterdam. This small mistake made me giggle and pull out my camera. As you can see, the menu is a combination of Dutch and English, but not Dunglish, a bit like oil and vinegar not yet ready to be called dressing. Maybe it is Indian English.
